In Our Hearts Forever

We will miss this sight!

What a wonderful last week of ministry! We could not have asked for a better outreach!

Monday we had a wonderful time in Kennedy Terrace Project. We acted aout the story of Daniel in the lions den. And the kids loved it! We had a great time explaining to the kids how we can pray to God for protection! Thursday we also went to Kennedy and taught them a song called "Jesus Is My Superhero" , and taught them the motions to it. And they were dancing and laughing and smiling soooo much!  We have heard from so many parents, and grandparents what a blessing it has been to have us be in Kennedy. They keep telling us how much of a difference we have made, and how much the kids need people to show them that they are loved. The Kennedy project has started a transformation, that we believe God will continue after we leave.

Hanna had her hair done by some older girls in Kennedy!

Tuesday and Friday we spent at the Lighthouse we have grown to love! We all have connected with the people there, and they will always hold special places in our hearts! We have seen transformations in them just in the short time we have been here. One particular story is about a woman named lucy. She made the decision to accept Christ as her savior. We have seen her entire countenance change. She is more peaceful, and not angry. God has done something incredible in her heart, and we as a team have been so blessed to be a part of this transormation! She went to get papers to fly to a rehab institution in the states. We pray that everything goes smoothly and she makes it into this new season of her life!

Making silly faces with the kids in the Lighthouse Afterschool Program

Tuesday morning we had a once in a lifetime opportunity to share Jesus in a PUBLIC SCHOOL! We were invited by a teacher there who attends the St.Croix Christian Church. We were able to perform and do a skit. The principal actually didnt know we would be talking about Jesus so she told us about halfway through the skit that we couldnt talk about Jesus. But She told us we could go into personal classrooms anytime and share. So right after the assembly we went into the ladys art class and did a teaching on how God gives us brand new clean hearts. We asked the kids if they wanted to ask Jesus to heal their broken hearts, and come into their lives as their savior and 15 kids raised their hands!!!!!

Our team with the kids at the public school

Wenesday our team went to Paradise Mills for the last time. We did a clean heart teaching and the kids asked us questions about God. And we had a great time talking.

Saturday we had our carnival in Kennedy! It went great! We had games, faec painting, candy, popcorn, hotdogs, and bounce houses! The kids had a wonderful time and parents came out too! At the end of the day we got to share a little about our team and we did our heart skit for them. Many hearts were touched. We know we have made a lasting impact there. Not only in the kids but in the teens and adults as well. Many parents could not stop thanking us for doing this for them and their kids! The kids were blown away that we had a carnival for them just because we love them. The kids themselves were saying how blessed they felt, and knew that it was a gift from God to have the carnival. Everyone had a wonderful time. At the end we gatghered some kids around in a circle and prayed and a few of the kids asked to pray! When before they would tell us they didn't know how to pray. God has done so much in their hearts! More than we will ever know! God opened many doors. The St.Croix Christian Church helped run booths, and got to know some of the people living in Kennedy. We pray and trust that they will continue the ministry and love on the residednts of the Kennedy Terrace Project.

Our last week on the island has been one full of blessings! Our debrief could not have been any better! We Spent one rainy night on the beach! But had a lot of fun. Pur team was extremely blessed by a family from St.Croix Christian who took us on an island atv tour! One of the top things to do on the island! We had a complete blast! We have had mulitple meals made for us, as an offer of thanks. We were able to go on a late night kiaking trip and see biolumonesence on the ocean. It is glowing jellyfish in the water! So neat! Our team has no words to how greatful and thankful we are to all that has been done to make this debrief one to be remembered! We  are leaving this island feeling more blessed than we could have ever imagined! Thank you to all who made this outreach such an incredilbe experience!

One of the best veiws I have ever seen! Just one of our stops on the atv tour.

Our very last day here we gave out cards and bibles to the kids in Paradise Mills and Kennedy. They were so excited! We were so happy to give them! God has got their hearts! And we will continue to pray for them all our lives!  As our team reflects on our time here we are amazed at how much God has done. He is so good to his children! He answered more prayers then we can count. He showed himself glorious is many ways! And has been faithful to answer our prayers! We have all fallen in love with the island of St.Croix and will miss it terribly. We know God is doing big things here! He is rising up an army of believers and revival is coming! Our goodbyes are heartwrenching. We are amazed at how we have built such wonderful relationships with the people here! We have come to the end of our dts, and are all processing so much! There have been tears, laughter, and more tears! This time went by so fast. We are all excited to go home and see our families, but little pieces of our hearts will remain on thjs island. God thank you so much for moving mountains, answering prayers, providing protection, oppening doors, stiring hearts, shifting atmospheres, and changing lives! As we prepare to leave each one of us will look back on this time with no regrets, full of excitement and stories about our incredible outreach in the beautiful Carribean island of St.Croix. We will miss you dearly!

The Best Is Yet to Come

This week our team spent a lot of our time in the projects. We went Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday in the afternoon. We went to both Paradise Mills and Kennedy. On Wednesday we split up and went to both Paridise Mills and Kennedy to deliver potted plants that we put bible verses on. We also gave them a copy of a powerful love letter called The Fathers Love Letter, that takes a bunch of scriptures from the bible and puts them together to form a beautiful letter formed right from Gods word. Our team had so many encouraging words from the parents at Kennedy. They were so thankful and excited to recieve the plants. One lady told two of our team members that she had been praying for someone to come here and we were an answer to her prayers. Another mom told us she was so thankful we had been coming and she could tell the difference in the kids, and that we needed to come back, that we couldn't leave, because the kids need us. It was such a powerful time. And our team was encouraged to hear those words affirming the work we have been doing there! We also handed out invitations to a Family Fun Day that we are having in the Kennedy Terrace Project on Saturday the 25th. We have been planning for about a week and have been getting donations. We know that God is going to use this time as a huge ministry as well as a day full of fun and laughter! God is doing big things on this island. He is moving and things are shifting. We are hearing it from people all around us that the atmosphere in Kennedy and in  St.Croix is changing and they can feel it!! It is so excited! And our team is so thankful that the Lord brought us here for such a time as this.

We have continued our ministry with the Lighthouse Mission and are so thankful that we have been given the opportunity to be there. We have heard from so many of the hhomeless there that they have been truly blessed to have us here. They tell us over and over how much they will miss us and are sad to see us go. It has been an incredible time of getting to know them and there stories. Malene gave the word this Friday and she spoke on how we have authority in Christ and that he wants to set us free and heal us. So we had a time of prayer and saw a lot of freedom and new attitudes! It was an incredible time of seeing Gods hand at work in the lives of his beloved.

Our Friend Cedric took us on a tour of the ancient graveyard behind his church

Jared praying for healing
Our team also hosted a 72 hour prayer weekend for the St.Croix Christian Church. It started Thursday night at 6:30 and went all weekend and ended Sunday at 6:30. It was a great time of worship and prayer. We had worship every night and had stations throught the room where people could go and let go of burdens, give thanks, do artwork, pray over the world, and for here. It was a really great to see the church step up and and to hear their prayers for the island. At the end of the weekend we opened the time up for testimonies. We heard amazing stories about how God has been providing for his people. It was so encouraging!   One of the homeless guys, named Russel, that we met at the Lighthouse came to our prayer weekend. He has been receiving the word and experiencing God is incredible ways. He is hungry and seeking the Lord. He spent a lot of time with us this weekend and we are seeing him grow so much!

Our team is SO excited for our last week of ministry! We have some big things coming up and know God is going to do some incredible things!! We have gotten the word that the best is yet to come!! So we are believing in faith for God to move and expecting lives to be transformed, restored, and saved! All in His might Name!

A New Adventure

A suprise was waiting for our team last Monday. Our leaders Josh and Melissa presented an idea to us, that took us for a bit of a turn. They asked us how we felt about them leaving our team for a couple days and being able to experience the team leading on our own. After giving it thought and prayer we students felt like it was a good idea and were all at peace with the plan! So Tuesday morning Josh and Melissa drove away and we were on our own.

Our team discovered that we work very well together even when our leaders are not here. We were able to take more ownership over our ministry and overall we communicated our plans very well.  Our team enjoyed the experience and are so thankful Josh and Melissa asked us to try it out. We grew closer as a team and feel more like a family than before.

This week we volunteered at the Lighthouse Mission on Tuesday and Friday morning and were a part of the afterschool program on Wednesday. Our relationships with the homeless is growing so much! Anytime we drive through Christiansted and see one of them they wave and say hello. It makes us so happy. And we have been given so much postive feedback from the homeless about us preaching during breakfast on Fridays. Our teachings from the beginning have stuck with them and made an impact. So that has been really encouraging for us to hear!

Malene Preaching it at the Lighthouse!!

One day this week we went to Chrisitansted and did the heart drama by the gazeebo. We had quite a few people watching and there were homeless from the lighthouse who watched  us as well. Our team loved doing our skit and being able to talk with people afterwards. We hope to be able to do that more in these last two weeks of ministry.

This week we did skits for the kids in Kennedy on Monday and Thursday. We had a teaching to go with the skits. We talked about the armour of God and hearing Gods voice. The kids responded really well. After the hearing Gods voice teaching we split into small groups and prayed for eachother. And a couple girls prayed for God to come into their hearts! It was so exciting! The kids keep telling us that they love God and they are understanding that God loves them. They love it when we pray together too! Our time in Kennedy is more than fun and games with kids, it is heartwarming, life changing, and more powerful than any of us even comprehend. A couple parents have told us that they only let their kids come outside when we are there. There is a sense of trust between the kids, the parents, and our team. It has been a huge blessing from the Lord, and we are so thankful.

We also went to Paradise Mills this week and continued building our relationships there. We love going to Paradise Mills and are greatful that we have been able to make relationships with some parents as well as kids. We pray that ministry there continues to grow and God moves in that place.

Friday we had our 24 hour prayer again, and had a wonderful time. We prayed into the sphere of sports and entertainment. We had a really good time praying and hearing Gods heart in these areas. We started on thursday night at 7 p.m. so we could end at 7 p.m. on Friday and go to the local street fair called Jump Up.

There were a bunch of guys on stilts dancing in the streets!

Most of our team with some guys taking a break after dancing
Our team had an amazing night experiencing the culture here! There was music and dancing and vendors selling all sorts of things! We loved being able to take part in this event. Jump up only happens four times a year and we were fortunate to be here during one.

Our team is so excited to give these last few weeks in St.Croix everything we have left! We are planning some amazing things for the kids and families in the projects. And doing more ministry with the St.Croix Christian Church. We are very excited to see what God does in these remaining days and pray to see even more lives changed!

A Long Awaited Visitor

''JOHNNY!!!''
Our team shouts as our compassion dts co-leader arrives at the ariport. Each of us dressed in the finest aparel we could muster up to greet our long awaited visitor....

Here we are at the St.Croix airport

Back at the YWAM base
These are the lovely  faces and outfits that were Johnnys first impression of St.Croix, and he still got in the van with us!

Our outreach leader Josh was given the opportunity to speak at the St. Croix Christian Church on sunday before Johnny arrived and he did an incredible job of bringing Gods heart to his people in the church. He was really getting into his preaching. It was like a different side of him was coming out that we hadn't seen before. But it was totally God moving and doing a great thing in the church body here in St. Croix. We as a team truly believe that God is going to start something here and revival is coming. We have been praying for it along with the rest of the believers that we have talked too. We were called here for such a time as this, and know that God is doing a great thing here in St.Croix!!

Josh preaching

Johnny spent Sunday through Thursday with our team. Throughout the week he did one on ones with all of the team members. Halfway through the week we had the privledge to take Johnny to our favorite beach Carambola. Much of our week was a jumble and scramble. Our routine was thrown off a bit by the one on ones but we all stayed flexible. Johnny was a great encouragement to our team. He was  really impressed by our relationships with the kids in the Kennedy Project. And said he had never seen anything like it before in all the years he has been in YWAM.

Part of our team after hiking to the tide pool with Johnny

And of course we spent time with the kids in Kennedy. The children have been saying more and more that they love our teachings and have been learning that God loves them! And they tell us that they love us. It is the most heartwarming thing to hear these kids who you have only known for a little over two months say they love you. We did a teaching on their dreams and how the tihngs they love are from God.

Johnny jumped right into ministry with us and helped with our crafts

Hanna with Joshua and Jared with Angelina

One of our days at Kennedy we took fingernail polish and the kids loved it!! They wanted to paint OUR fingernails more than they wanted us to do theirs. It was so great! We had a blast!

Our team has almost completely finished painting the apartment for the new base directors. So we are really excited about that. It is looking very good. And we are so glad we got to be a blessing to the long term missionaries here and help them out with such a big project.

We continued our ministry with the Lighthouse and have grown in our relationships there as well. Joo preached this friday and all the people sitting at the table kept asking him to read more bible verses! It was incredible. Even the pastor that leads at the lighthouse said that they never ask for more scripture. The attitudes of the people there is just one transformation that we have seen in the Lighthouse.

Some of the regulars at the Lighthouse waiting for breakfast to be served

Friday night we held a ministry night with St. Croix Christian Church. One of the members helped Jared, Melissa, and Hanna lead worship through the night, as the rest of the team members prayed for people. The Lord totally showed up and peoples hearts were ministered to in amazing ways only God can do. We had so many people in the church tell us how greatly they appreciated us doing a ministry night. We were able to witness pastors from two churches become united in Christ by embracing eachother with brotherly love that comes only from Jesus! We saw the church body rise up and intercede for their island and the people living here. We know that the time they have waited for is coming! God is going to move on this island. They have been crying out to God, and he is coming!! Our team loved putting this together and serving the church. We are so thankful for the Lord oppening the doors to this opportunity. We know that lives were changed and no one left the same way they came.

Some of the beautiful sights we have seen:

“Oh the beauty of Your majesty, On the cross You showed your love to me
Beautiful Lord, awesome and mighty, I’m captured by the love I see”
-leeland
This song describes our hearts toward God and the work we are doing here for Him. Everywhere we look we see God moving and showing His beauty in St.Croix.
Our team is very excited to continue our ministry in the projects. We have more teachings to do and we cannot wait to see how the kids respond. We are praying for more opportunities to talk to parents and keep bringing the joy of the Lord into every situation and place we go! God has done some amazing things in the hearts and lives of the church body, the projects, and our team itself. God you are soooo good! Thank you for being so faithful to us. We are ready to dive into our last few weeks full of supernatural energy and do everything God puts on our hearts to do. We will not leave this dts with any regrets!

A steadfast Grip

The old richety red van screaches to a sudden stop in unmarked parking. From all surrounding sides come swarming children. Running, skipping, pressing closer and closer. Their smiling facing and heartwarming laughter trickle inside as they circled around the vehicle. Some waiting in patience. Others jumping up and down with excitement. The double doors swing open and out pour the passengers inside, just as giddy as the anxious onlookers.  With no delay children encompass the white people with suffocating hugs. But there is no thought of discomfort. Only a rising joy and unearthly love welling up inside. It grows and it grows... until no longer can it be contained. Soon laughter errupts from all around and shouts exlaiming pure delight. The games begin. There is no lack of thrilling energy.  It is like a buzz, an electricity flowing from deep within. Power beyond expression taking place of reason and practical sense. There is no denying the power that is at work. It is something. Something greater than comprehension.  We grasp for it, and it is granted in small portions. Little doses that bring survival and perserverance. To call it human resource is asking for the credit of what it certainly is not. To call it the power of a King of Glory, a God most high, that is truth. That is where all the credit is due.

This is our experience every day during the week. As our relationships with the children in the Projects grow we are falling ever more in love with them. We have been able to meet some parents and tell them why we are here. They seem very open and willing to talk. Our team is praying for opportunities to reach the parents and see families transformed. We know God is doing BIG things. Bigger than we can even imagine. Our team is confident that we are exactly where God wants us. We are holding on to his word and promises that lie within it. He is our rock and foundation. God is growing our confidence and throwing our fears and doubts behind us as we press into his plans and desires for our outreach. God never dissapoints and we are forever greatful for his unending faithfullness.

We are continuing our work at the Lighthouse Mission. Serving every Tuesday and Friday morning.  And participating in the afterschool program. The kids there are opening up more every time we go. This week we split the group in half of Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. One day half of us went to the Lighthouse and the rest of the team went to the Paradise Mills project. We absolutely loved doing that. We hadn't been to Paradise Mills for weeks and we really felt we should continue going there. The kids were so excited to see us. They told us they thought something bad had happened to us. So we are going to continue splitting up the group.

To end this week we had our 24 hour prayer day. And during the afternoon we felt God wanted us to go to the Kennedy Project and write words for the children there and the project on the basketball court. We went while most of the kids were still at school. Here are some of the things we wrote....

What is truth? Truth is all around us. Truth is the sun rising and setting every day. The tide crashing on the shore in endless waves. As dawn bursts forth, we step into the kingdom created by the One Living God. We see compassion unfolding in the lives of His follwers. We see His love seeping into the hearts of the lost. The ones He is calling back to him. This is our reasoning. This is our truth; That something greater than our lives is at work in this world. The work of the Hand of God.

Where None Have Gone Before

"I begynnelsen skapte Gud himmelen og jorden"
   -Genesis 1:1
Norweigen Bible/ Bibelen Guds Ord

We kicked this week off by going somewehre we have never been yet. There is a squatters community on the island of St.Croix. No one goes into this community before. The people living there are mostly immigrants from the Dominican Rebublic. We had to split up into two groups. One group went far into the community. And as they walked around they met a couple that invited us to thier wedding! Later we went back to help them move a car from their yard.  While one group was walking around, the other group found a project that we were not expecting. While talking and playing basketball with some teens, we met a 19 year old named Jarica. She told us that no one had ever come to thier community to spend time with them before. We all felt that it was God guiding us to them and how receptive they were of us yet again.

The living conditions in the squatters community

Then in the evening we weent to the kennedy project and Jared and Melissa B. taught on creation. we did a craft with them and they glued pieces of paper on to represent the different things God created on the different days. it went over really well, the kids loved it! then we gave them calk to draw on the basketball courts their favorite things God created. we saw kids write "i love jesus", "God created the world". It was amazing!!

Melissa  and Jared teaching the kids! There were about 30 kids sitting in the circle

Tuesday morning we went to the lighthouse in the morning.  On Tuesday and Wednesday evening we went back to the lighthouse for the after school program we have started helping with. Tuesday Jared and Melissa B. taught their creation lesson. And Wednesday Melissa J. taught clean mouth, clean heart lesson. Tuesday night we helped the St. Croix Christian Church tby watching the children of couples in the church while they took a  parenting class. This is something we will be doing every Tuesday night while we are here.

Leah helping some of the younger kids at the Lighthouse

Wednesday and Thursday morning  we spent time cleaning the appartment, and painting it for the new base directors to live in. They will hopefully be ariving at the end of February, so our team may be able to meet them! We are praying that they arrive before we leave.

Mindy, Joo, and Solveig doing the primer coat!

Thursday, in the afternoon we went to the Kennedy project. Melissa Jensen taught a lesson on hygeine called clean mouth, clean heart. A lot of the children in the projects have really rotten teeth so it was really good to do that teaching! But then she related it back to how we have to have a clean heart along witha clean mouth! And then we did a prayer with the children who wanted to ask Jesus to be their best friend and come into their hearts. We had four children come to the Lord along with others praying along in the group. It was so incredible! God has definitely been directing us in every step and knew that the kids would respond the way they did. We are so excited to go back and continue teaching. In the evening we began our 24 hour prayer.

Friday half of us stayed on base for prayer and the other half went to the lighthouse. This week Melissa B. preached the word! Then we spent the rest of our day doing our prayer day. We spent time praying into the business sphere in st. croix. On Wednesday we found out that the main oil refinery here on the island is going out of business. This will have a crippling affect on the island. Many businesses and families will be affected. We are praying in faith that God has the situation in his hands, and it will bring glory to Him, even if we can't see it yet. This time will give the church to bond together and be a living testimony of Gods faithfullness even in the tough times.

This saturday we went to a wedding in the squatters community. The couple told us they were so greatful that we came. And the bride looked  beautiful! It was unlike any wedding any of us had been to. It was very casual and short. But it was definitely a wonderful thing to be a part of. And everyone was so glad to be there!

Our team with the bride and groom!!

Overall team feeling of the week?

"Our team loved being so busy every day this week!! We are so excited about how the children responded to our first teachings. We cannot wait to see how the rest of the lessons go, and  watch the kids grow.  The kids that came to the Lord are in our prayers constantly. We know God is doing something BIG on this island! And we are so excited to watch his plans unfold. We have been brought here for such a time as this!"

With all our love! Team St. Croix

A Rising Light

"Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord  will be your rear guard."
                                                          ~Isaiah 58:8

Monday our team went to Christansted and performed a drama about God restoring our hearts after they have been broken from different things of this world. Like alcohol, and drugs, and broken relationships. We performed it twice and talked and prayed with people afterward. It was a really great time of ministering to the people on the streets.
Hanna stealing Jared away from Mindy. Leaving behind a broken heart

Minday and Malene talking with some local homeless

Later that day we listened to a sermon from Josh's home church in California. The teaching was one section of a series on different lies the devil loves to tell us. The one we listened to was how the devil will feed us the lie that "the bible can't be trusted", then the pastor gave reasons why we could. He described how the bible is texturally accurate, archeologically accurate, and historically accurate. It was a wonderful teaching that our team enjoyed listening too! It really emphasized that God never contradicts himself and treating the bible for what it is, Gods living word.

Here is a link to the website if you are interested in listening yourself! We highly encourage it! :)

Tuesday we went to the Lighthouse Mission in the morning. We spent the rest of our afternoon helping clean the ywam base and preparing rooms for other people that arrived later in the week. It was a great time of fellowshiping and helping out the long term staff here. Before coming here we felt like God had been telling us that we would be doing some sort of rebuilding for the base here. And cleaning is just one way we have been able to help out and build it up!!
Wednesday we were surprised with a day off to go boating and see Buck Island!! A family in the St. Croix Christian Church lent our team their boat for the day to bless us for sharing our testimonies and helping teach Sunday School. We were blown away by the generosity! So our team was able to spend the day on a beautiful catamaran with perfect sunny weather. We were also able to snorkel off the side of the Island at the only underwater state park!
The team posing for a picture on the 'Kindred Spirit'

Thursday we Felt the Lord was leading us to do prayer walks in Christensted. So we were sent out in pairs of two and walked out in faith. We were able to pray with the people sitting outside, walking around, waiting for taxis, and setting up booths. We had a great time just asking the Lord for guidance and seeing where he took us with our obedience. We discovered that some people are very receptive to us, and others are not quite as much. But we never let that discourage us. We have confidence that God was moving and know that even if we cannot see what he is doing, that doesn't mean nothing is going to happen.  Later that day we went to the afterschool program that the Lighthouse Mission runs. We played games for the first half our got to know the kids. We were then able to help with their homework. We will be going to the afterschool program about twce a week. The teachers who are there every day were very greatful to have us there. They were also very excited about the  kids response to us being there! Our team is looking forward to building relationships with the kids and continuing our ministry with the Lighthoues Mission!!
Friday we went to the lighthouse in the morning. This week Jared preached! He talked on being thankful and the golden rule of loving your neighbor as yourelf. He talked about how when you love eachother the world around you becomes a better place. A message much needed to hear by the homeless in this community. We have observed that there is some hostility between the homeless, even inside the lighthouse. And they took the message to heart. After it was finished they thanked the pastor and the long term volunteers who are there every morning cooking for them. It was great to see the immdeiate response they gave to the message! We were very encouraged.

Jared preaching the word, Mindy being excited, Hanna listening intently...

During all of this we  had a group of people stay on base to keep our 24 hour prayer day continuing. We started thursday night at 10 p.m. and ended 10 p.m. Friday. We had a time of worship, prayed into the education circle, gave encouraging words, had a time of personal devotion, went on a treasure hunt, had a time of thankfulness, washed our leaders feet, and ended with some worship. It was a wonderful 4th 24 hour prayer day!
We had a wonderful week full of listening to the Lords voice for guidance, and walking out in faith the things he showed us!

Overall team feeling of this week:
" We are now at the halfway point of our outreach and things are begining to pick up! The holidays are over and more ministries have opened up. We have more set plans and are becoming organized. God has been teaching us alot about being patient and waiting on him. Next week we are going to be starting a mini DTS for the children  at the Lighthouse afterschool program and the children at the Kennedy project.
